Q. Who goes to Deerfield?
A. Deerfield welcomes guests 15 and older, with those under 18 accompanied by an adult. About half of our guests come alone and make friends while they’re here. The other half come with a friend or group of friends, a parent, sibling, partner or spouse. We have women and men, first-timers and long-time guests who’ve been coming for years, fitness enthusiasts and those who just like to loll by the pool. Some people come to lose weight or get themselves on track with a fitness regimen. Others come for massages and pampering and sleeping late. Some come because they want to surround themselves with friendly, nurturing company. Others just want some “me” time. Everyone is welcome and everyone enjoys.
Q. What should I pack?
A. Very casual, comfortable clothing for whatever type of exercise you might do, a bathing suit for the pool and hot tub, a hat for sun protection outdoors. Sneakers are fine for beginner and intermediate hikes. Lightweight hiking shoes are optional for advanced hikes. There’s no need to “dress” for meals, even dinner. Everything is very casual here. Ladies leave your jewelry and makeup at home. Gentlemen can skip the jacket and tie requirement.
Q. Do I have to be physically fit to go to Deerfield?
A. Whatever your fitness level, we can accommodate you. Our group classes range from gentle to vigorous, and all our instructors will show you how to tailor a class to your needs, whether you need to take it a little slower or want to crank up the intensity a notch. From gentle walks and hikes, gentle Tai Chi, and chair aerobics, to a vigorous boot camp, cardio salsa, or the advanced Appalachian Trail hike, and everything in between, there’s something for practically everyone here at Deerfield.
Q. Do I have to exercise at Deerfield? What else is there to do?
A. This is YOUR getaway. You make it what you want! You can exercise all day from 7 in the morning on, if you want, take one or two classes a day, just do a little walking after a meal, or do nothing at all! Maybe you’d prefer to fill your days with pampering massages, facials, and body treatments, curling up with a good book or catching up on that stack of magazines you’ve been meaning to get to, shooting the breeze or playing death match Scrabble with a friend old or new. Also within reach are golf, horseback riding, concerts and theater, movies, a flea market, antiquing, and now even casinos. Did someone say exercise?
Q. What kind of food does Deerfield serve?
A. We serve three meals a day and two snacks — all healthy spa cuisine made with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein. In addition to regular menu selections at meals, our chefs offer daily specials as well. For guests who choose to track their nutrition, we provide calorie counts of all meals and snacks. All meals are served restaurant style in our cozy, communal dining room.
Q. How long do most guests stay?
A. Guest stays range from our minimum two-night stay to a five-night mini-week, a week, two weeks, and more… up to a month or two. It’s up to you and your schedule, budget, and goals. One of the nice things about Deerfield is that coming here for a whole week costs the same thing as a weekend at many other spas, so you have greater flexibility in making your stay as long as you want. Check our rates and see what length stay suits you.
Q. What kind of massages and spa treatments do you offer?
A. Our spa treatments include a broad selection of relaxing and therapeutic massages, body treatments, facials, and healing techniques. Our therapists are second to none and will happily tailor your treatment to suit your needs and preferences.
Q. Are pets allowed?
A. For the comfort and relaxation of all our guests, we do not permit pets at Deerfield.
